Gent signs with Victoria Royals


DHA is extremely proud and would like to congratulate forward Tyus Gent on signing a Standard Player Agreement with the Victoria Royals of the WHL.

Gent led the team this season with 50 points, 25 goals and 25 helpers.  He was selected by the Royals in the fourth round, 88th overall, in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

Well done Tyus!  Wild Pride!

Price, Brant and Cunningham Bronze Medalists at Aboriginal Nationals

DHA is extremely proud and congratulates Jalen Price (Prep), Ty Brant and Corey Cunningham (E15) on their Bronze medal performance, representing Team BC at the recent 2017 Aboriginal National Championships in Lake Cowichan.

The prestigious tournament hosted by Cowichan included eight teams, including female and male, representing every area of Canada.  Rick Brant, a front runner in the organization of the competitive, midget-aged athletes, commends everyone for the huge success of the tournament.

Ty Brant (2nd appearance at the tournament) is from Lake Cowichan and enjoyed the opportunity to play in front of his hometown crowd.  Brant is still eligible to play in the championships next year in Nova Scotia and he intends to try out.

Kent and Svejkovsky drafted to USHL

DHA is extremely proud to announce that Nicholas Kent and Lukas Svejkovsky have been drafted to the USHL!

Nicholas, a defenseman with DHA, was drafted by the Green Bay Gamblers of Wisconsin in Phase 1 of the USHL draft.

Lukas, a forward with DHA was drafted by the Muskegon Lumberjacks, 92nd overall in the 6th round on May 1st in Phase 1 of the USHL draft.

DHA players raising the bar in the classroom


Congratulations to all those DHA student athletes who worked diligently and conscientiously in striking a balance between the demanding role of hockey and academic pursuits.

DHA is proud to report that 24 players attained Principals List status while 90 players attained Honour Roll accolades for Term 1.  The Principal’s List requires students to attain a 92%  average or higher and an 83% average for Honour Roll in their best 6 of 8 courses.

DHA E15’s sweep Calgary showcase over the weekend

DHA E 15’s balanced attack helped the team come away with 3 solid wins at the Calgary showcase over the weekend.

On Friday afternoon DHA dumped POE 8-2 after Tyus Gent netted 3 goals and an assist while Lukas Svejkovsky added a goal and 2 assists.  Ben Ward (2 goals ), Tyler Price  (a goal and an assist)  and Kolton Cousins (a goal) also found the back of the net.  Corson Hopwo, Corey Cunninham, Ty Brant, Jack Glen, Dillon Maher, Nicholas Kent and Kiernan Bailey added helpers.  Two goals were posted on the powerplay (50%).

Elliott Marshall turned away 11 of 13 shots.

On Saturday afternoon the DHA upended Okanagan Hockey Academy E15’s by a score of 5-2, outshooting the competition 32-19.  Corey Cunningham led the attack with 2 goals and an assist while Corson Hopwo, Dillon Maher and Lukas Svejkovsky also potted goals.  Matthew Cadden, Tyus Gent, Jack Glen, Ben Ward, Kolton Cousins, Nicholas Kent and Garrett Wicks added helpers.

Sunday’s afternoon hockey action resulted in DHA coming out on top by a score of 8-1 over the Northern Alberta Xtreme 15s.  Again, the scoring and helpers were spread throughout the DHA roster.

Geo Wilson came away with the win while pushing away 30 of 31 shots.
