Delta Hockey Academy (DHA – Wild) Goals
To work in harmony with existing school and district goals to provide Hockey Academy students a positive learning environment from which to develop their athletic and academic potential.  Specifically the goals are to:
  • Nurture healthy attitudes and behaviours consistent with academic and athletic success
  • Stress the importance of TEAM and how to be a great teammate
  • Improve the skill level and hockey IQ of every player
  • Enhance functional physical development through the season and emphasize on these areas (post season) during the spring months.
  • Maximize player understanding of team play
  • Provide the student athlete and parent / guardian with evaluations of personal performance
  • Increase students’ awareness of the benefits of nutrition on sport performance

Facts about the Program
Midget U18 Prep

  • All players are 1998- 2000 born
  • 19 players will be selected
  • Players must be full time students at South Delta Secondary in Tsawwassen
  • This is a two block program where students receive credit of Physical Education and attendence is manditory to all team events
  • All DHA programs are endorsed by B.C.A.H.A and play in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL)
  • The Midget U18 Prep team will play in a divison with other academy teams incuding (BWC, PCHA, POE, OHA, Edge, SISEC, Compete, Yale, Banff)
  • The teams will play an 28-32 game league schedule with playoffs at the conclusion of the regular season, plus 2-3 tournaments
  • 45-50 Season Games total
  • Home games will be played out of Planet Ice Delta
  • Transportation is provided by the Delta School District and there are 2 pick up spots in both South Surrey and Delta

Player Selection Criteria

  • Prior knowledge coaches have about each player as well as external information that the DHA has obtained from other coaches and programs
  • Dedicated, Hard Working, Respectful, Committed players with the willingness to learn and adapt to new ideas and philosophies.
  • Families sharing a similar philosophy to our program
  • Evaluation skates/interviews when needed (Evaluation skates are not full tryouts) Dates will be posted on the website

Transportation

DHA provides transportation to and from Tsawwassen for those living out of the area.  There is a $75 monthly fee for this service for those in the Surrey/Delta catchment. A fee of $150 is for those coming from Langley.

Langley Transportation

  • Colossus (200th & Hwy 1)

Bus transportation from South Delta Secondary to and from the ice rinks is included with the academy fee

Fees

Hockey Academy Fees: $12,000 per player:
– Deposit for first and last month payment of $2,400, payable June 1st to Delta School District
– 8 monthly instalments of $1,200 (Oct – May)

Bus transportation fee: ($150 – Langley) ($75 – South Surrey)

Registration Fee of $230 and Transfer fee of $75 (total: $305) payable to SDMHA (due with registration forms.)

Out of Province Educational Fee ($8000) payable to Delta School District

Includes:

Full Uniform – Helmets, Gloves, Pant Shells

Paid Professional Coaches

Transportation, Tournaments, Hotel Costs, some meals on the road

Both Midget E15 & U18 teams will practice in the morning before school and during their first blocks.

Both Bantam Varsity and Prep teams will practice in the afternoon during their last blocks.

  1. I am trying to learn if you are set for the upcoming season for U18 goalies or will be looking to fill any spots. Prior to committing to evaluation camps as I will have to take my son out of school for a few days, I am trying to learn if there are spots available. My son Geoff, did play for OHA Bantam Varsity during the 2014-15 season.
