Bantam Prep Team wins Prestigious John Reid Memorial Tournament in St. Albert
Delta Wild Bantam Prep team travelled to St.Albert , AB January 13th to attend 37th John Reid Memorial Tournament.
JRMT is the top AAA Bantam Tournament in Canada and Western United States. Teams have to apply and qualify to be invited. Over 60 teams applied and only 16 invited.
The DHA Bantam Prep Team had some early season success, winning Chilliwack AAA tournament and Rocky Mountain Classic in Calgary as well as KIBIHT tournament in Kamloops, making it 3 for 3.
DHA went undefeated in round robin portion of JRMT beating Calgary Sabres 6-3 , Anaheim Jr Ducks 3-0 and Sherwood Park 5-2.
DHA was only team in round robin play to win all their games. Moving onto quarter finals DHA went on to play Colorado Thunderbirds coached by ex NHLers Joe Sakic and Adam Foote who DHA also played in final of Chilliwack Tournament. DHA went onto win 4-1 .
Next up was the #1 ranked team NSWC after falling behind 3-1, DHA stormed back and dominated the 2nd half of game to win 6-3.
DHA moved onto the final, versus a very good Calgary Jr Flames team. After a scoreless first period DHA opened the scoring and went up 2 – 0 in 2nd period. Calgary scored on power play to narrow gap to 2-1 . Calgary pushed hard for remainder of game and with some outstanding goaltending from Maguire Houlind, the team held on to win 2-1.
This was DHA’s 4th tournament win in 4 tournaments entered this season, a remarkable achievement.
