Press Release: U15 Prep Green Coaching Announcement

The Delta Hockey Academy announced today that Spencer Bennett will be stepping down from his position as the head coach of the U15 Prep Green team to accept a job with the White Rock Fire Department. He will be staying with the team in a support capacity for the remainder of the season. Bennett coached multiple teams at the Delta Hockey Academy for eight seasons, leading the Midget Prep team to a CSSHL Championship victory in 2014/2015.

“We are very excited for Spencer to take this next step in his career and life,” said Ian Gallagher, Delta Hockey Academy President. “I am personally thankful for all of Spencer’s work over the past eight years with our program. We are happy that Spencer will be able to support the team and coaching staff through to the end of the season.”

Kris Beech, who has coached at the Delta Hockey Academy for four seasons, will be stepping in as the new head coach of the U15 Prep Green program alongside longtime DHA coach, Harry Dion, who will be staying on board as the assistant coach. Coach Rick Lanz will also be supporting the team’s practices.

Beech was selected by the Washington Capitals 7th overall in the 1999 NHL entry draft. He played seven seasons in the NHL and AHL for the Washington Capitals, Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks. Beech also played eight seasons in Europe (Sweden, Finland, Czech Rep., Germany, Austria and N. Ireland). He is a certified mindfulness coach and serves as the academy’s Mental Performance Coach.

“The development of our players is central to our purpose and I look forward to Kris, Harry, Rick and Spencer working together with our U15 Prep Green team for the remainder of the school year,” said Gallagher.

Beech will take over as head coach of the U15 Prep Green team in January.
